From Austin…with Ensemble VIII

In Austin this week singing a wonderful program of Bach and Schutz with Ensemble VIII. It was wonderful to spend time with Miguel Ravago at Fonda San Miguel last eve! Amazing food! Kitchen Opera will be writing a song featuring Miguel and the making of ‘Mole Poblano‘.

Recording Rick del Castillo’s new song ‘Tu Amor Perdi’ he wrote with Carl Thiel here in Kyle, Texas! We will be performing with the Austin Civic Orchestra in September. We have decided to perform the song as a duo which is such fun!! Rick is hitting high C’s in full out tenor!

Abendmusik Concert: Mass in B Minor

Bach Society HoustonA continuation of the Houston Early Music Festival performance, this Sunday, February 16th, I have the pleasure of performing Bach’s monumental masterpiece, Mass in B Minor.  The Abendmusik Concert: Mass in B Minor will be conducted by Dresden baroque specialist Peter Kopp, with the Bach Choir Houston and Mercury. Amongst myself, the concert will feature soloists sopranos Meredith Ruduski and Julia Dawson, tenor Randall Umstead and bass Timothy Jones.

Houston Early Music Festival

festival-logoThis February, I will have to pleasure to participate in the second annual Houston Early Music Festival. Ars Lyrica Houston, Bach Society Houston, Houston Early Music and Mercury – The Orchestra Redefined will host the second annual Houston Early Music Festival from February 8-16, 2014 at venues across the city.

On February 8th, The modern world première of a 1703 oratorio by Alessandro Scarlatti will feature Canadian soprano Meghan Lindsay in her Ars Lyrica début and three of the world’s leading countertenors which includes myself, John Holiday, and Jay Carter. Ars Lyrica’s recording of this beautiful work, not heard since the early 18th century, will be released in Fall 2014 on the Sono Luminus label.

Kitchen Opera at 54 Below

Last week, I had a pleasure to sing for Cady Huffman in her show at the Broadway’s super club 54 Below. Peter was simply amazing on the bagpipes and we were applauded by the likes of Nathan Lane. Cady was wonderful and we are thrilled to have her as part of Kitchen Opera Company.

Baroque Masters-Concert at Saint Thomas Church in New York

You are cordially invited to a one of a kind concert, Baroque Masters, where I get to sing one of my favorite pieces by Purcell, Tis natures’ voice.  This event will take a place on Thursday, January 30 @ 7:30 pm at Saint Thomas Church (Main Hall) in New York City.

Noted Early Music specialist Richard Egarr, Music Director of The Academy of Ancient Music, Cambridge, England, joins us in this collaboration with Juilliard’s period-instrument ensemble, with Robert Mealy as the director.  Richard Egarr and John Scott will conduct The Saint Thomas Choir of Men and Boys and Juilliard415 in a program featuring Purcell’s Hail! Bright Cecilia and two of Handel’s four Coronation Anthems, Zadok the Priest and The King Shall Rejoice. The program also includes Handel’s Water Music, Suite No. 2 in D major. With vocal soloists, Nicolette Mavroleon, soprano, Ryland Angel and Jeffrey Freuler, countertenors, Nathan Haller and James Kennerley, tenors, and Elliott Hines and Kurt Kanazawa, baritones, listeners can expect a delightful evening of entertainment.
